The
congas
Originally from Africa, bought over to Cuba by
the early salves. The conga is a tall long wooden drum. Formally
made from a hallowed out small trunks. Again they have animal skin
stretched across the end which is held firm in place for tension.
Now fibre glass and metal construction is common. They are played
by all parts of the hand, fingers and palms to get different sounds.
Used a lot in latin music and jazz. Gives a great deep haunting
rhythmic sound.
